What is card counting?

Who invented card counting?

Edward O. Thorp is considered as the father of the card counting strategy. This is all narrated in his book “Beat the Dealer” where he outlines other useful strategies that you can use to play and beat blackjack.

Is card Counting Illegal?

Despite what many people think, card counting is not illegal. It is like any blackjack strategy where you use your brains to win. Casinos may ask you to leave the casino, but trust us, card counting is not illegal. It is just a matter of having the brains for mathematics. Very few people can actually pull this off, but those who can make thousands of dollars in a week.

How do you go about card counting?

Well, for the first part you need to very good at mathematics to be able to count cards. In addition to that, you will need a bit of money to bet. A standard game of blackjack is played with up to 8 decks and you cannot count all those cards alone. Therefore, if you want to count cards, get some training and some help.

What happens if I get caught counting cards?

The casino may rough you up a bit, but they cannot do much to you. The best that they can do is ask to no longer play at the casino. In the worst-case scenario, they can also tell other casinos about you and have you barred from the casinos.

Can anyone be a card counter?

Well, yes, anyone can be a card counter; you just have to go through some training first. With that, training will come to discipline. Even as a card counter, you still need to know when to walk away and when to keep playing. Basic principles like managing your bankroll still come into play when you count cards.

Other than card counting, are there other blackjack strategies?

Yes, there are strategies that one can use to win at blackjack, but they are not as effective and rewarding as card counting. A few of these strategies include Pair splitting; Hit and Stand; Doubling Down and so forth. Players need to know what these strategies entail to get the most of them.
