If you have not been watching Alex Jacob on Jeopardy, you are missing seriously missing out on something. It is refreshing to watch a player that confident, and most importantly to win back to back! Jacob is a former poker champ and has won over $70,000 in his three appearances on the show.
The winning trick
The poker pro is making the odds work in his favour by employing a rather non-traditional strategy. He is relying on the game theory wherein he makes his opponents nervous and confuses them with his choices. He confuses them by changing the categories frequently after he gets a good control over the board. Then he uses the Chuck Forrest method to pick the values with the highest offerings.
Another important factor is that by changing the categories repeatedly, he gets to look for the Daily Doubles, which are great in creating a gap between your and your opponent’s scores. With a considerable lead, it gets easier for Jacob to eliminate them because weak players usually get nervous and end up giving the wrong answers under stressful situations.
Aiming to break the record?
However, it is not the first time that a player has used such unorthodox strategies to win the show. Considering Ken Jennings, the record holder on Jeopardy, having won about $2,520,700 in 74 matches, Jacob clearly has a long way to go. However, it cannot be denied that watching Jacob mercilessly crush his opponents is surely exciting.
Jacob currently works in Chicago at the Gelber Group as a currency trader. He loves playing poker and has won over $2.6 million in several poker tournaments.
