PokerStars’ latest ambassadors, tennis star Rafael Nadal and ace football player Ronaldo met for their second charitable poker tournament in London this year. The match regarded as a friendly duel between the two sporting legends was held last year too as a part of European Poker Tour Prague Charity Challenge in which Rafael Nadal defeated both Ronaldo and poker star Daniel Negreanu. This time only Ronaldo and Nadal met for the second time for an interesting poker game, which was relayed live on PokerStars’ website to the delight of both players’ fans. The challenge of trying to improve their scores from last tournament had both players practising hard to improve their skills and anticipation was high.
The poker match this year was held in London’s Hippodrome Casino on November 18, 2014 after Ronaldo challenged Nadal for a rematch in September. It was decided that the winning amount of this match will be donated to their favourite charities. It was an evenly fought match between both players and this time again the winner was 14 time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal. Ronaldo was jovial and sporting about the loss and stated that his mistake of putting all-in at the end led to the defeat. The match between both players was quite short as Nadal was able to defeat Ronaldo in a quick 20 minute session and won $50000, which was donated to Rafa Nadal Foundation for Children and Teenagers at Risk.
A jubilant Nadal expressing his delight at the win said that he is willing to have a rematch with Ronaldo next year if the football legend is open to the challenge. Both players gladly admitted to the challenge being more of a fun-filled event and Rafael Nadal discussed about similarities between both tennis and poker in, which analysing an opponent’s ability is the key to a win. PokerStars is likely to pitch Nadal into a second round and he is likely to play Neymar another football legend from his nation as he really enjoys playing poker.
